As the National Whisky Sour Day takes center stage at the end of the week, we’ll be celebrating with all things whisky sour! Explore these different variations of the classic cocktail we all know and love — from fruity enhancements to spicy twists. Whether you’re a whisky aficionado or just looking to try something new, there’s a whisky sour variation for everyone. 

 

  1. Whisky Sour with Marmalade

 

If there’s one sure way to make a drink better, it’s always by adding fruit! With this marmalade, you’ll bring a delightful twist to your usual favorite.

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. 100-proof bourbon
  • 1 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 1⁄2 oz. simple syrup
  • 1 tsp. orange marmalade
  • 1 egg white
  • 3 drops Angostura bitters

Instructions:

  • Combine bourbon, juice, syrup, marmalade, and egg white in a shaker filled with ice; shake. 
  • Strain into a chilled coupe glass. 
  • Add bitters, and using a toothpick, swirl into whites.

 

  1. Passion Fruit Sour

 

Add a tropical and exotic twist to your whisky sour! This refreshing variation brings vibrant flavors and a touch of adventure to your classic cocktail.

 

Ingredients:

  • 50ml whisky
  • 35ml Passion Fruit Purée
  • 20ml Sugar Syrup
  • 12.5ml Lime Juice
  • 1 Egg White
  • Passion Fruit
  • Cubed Ice

Instructions:

  • Fill a rocks glass or whisky tumbler with ice and place to one side.
  • Grab a cocktail shaker and add your ice cubes, whisky, passion fruit purée, lime juice, sugar syrup and egg white.
  • Shake it up.
  • Remove the ice from your chilled rocks glass. Place a strainer over the shaker and pour.
  • Garnish with half a passion fruit and get stuck in.

 

  1. Spicy Whisky Sour

 

Sugar, spice, and everything nice! This whisky sour comes with a spicy twist that makes it unexpectedly one of the best cocktails out there.

 

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Bourbon
  • 2tsp Sriracha Sauce
  • 25ml Lemon Juice
  • 25ml Egg Whites
  • 25ml Sugar Syrup
  • Ice

Instructions:

  • Add all ingredients to a shaker or pitcher.
  • Add ice to the shaker and vigorously shake.
  • Strain over an ice block in rocks glass.

 

  1. Bordeaux Sour

 

Experience the best of both worlds with this cocktail! If you love wine and whisky, give this recipe a try – we promise it will become your new favorite.

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 maraschino cherry 
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 1 ounce Bordeaux red wine 
  • 1 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 5 dashes orange bitters
  • Garnish: maraschino cherry

Instructions:

  • In a shaker, muddle the cherry and maple syrup.
  • Add the bourbon, red wine, lemon juice and orange bitters with ice, and shake until well-chilled.
  • Double-strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
  • Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

 

  1. Japanese Sour

 

Whip up a whisky sour with elements from the land of the rising sun. This rich and silky drink is perfect for a mellow evening.

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Japanese whisky
  • 1/4 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/4 ounce yuzu juice (or lime juice), freshly squeezed
  • 1/3 ounce Japanese kuromitsu (can substitute honey or molasses) 
  • 1/2 ounce egg white
  • Garnish: 5 drops Angostura bitters
  • Garnish: 5 drops Peychaud’s bitters

Instructions:

  • Add the whisky, lemon juice, yuzu juice, kuromitsu and egg white into a shaker and dry-shake (without ice) vigorously for 10 seconds.
  • Add large ice cubes and shake again until well-chilled.
  • Strain into a chilled coupe glass.
  • Garnish with the Angostura and Peychaud’s bitters.
