Unique Cocktails for the Sunny Days


We're all about cocktails this month of May! World Cocktail Day just passed last Friday, National Cosmopolitan Day was the other week, National Mimosa Day is tomorrow, and we're celebrating all of it! Apart from the classic cocktails we all know and love by heart, let's dive into more unique cocktail recipes. Have you tried them yet.

 

Iceland Dill Martini

Hold up, don’t look away yet. The sound of pickle brine and mustard seeds in a cocktail might turn you off but this is surprisingly awesome!


Ingredients

  • 2 parts Vodka
  • 0.5 to 1 part kosher pickle brine
  • Dry vermouth, as rinse
  • 10 mustard seeds
  • Kosher dill pickle and sprig of dill

Instructions

  • Combine all the ingredients into a shaker with ice. 
  • Shake, strain, and garnish. 

 

Prohibition Cocktail

We can feel the eyebrows rising with this ingredient list but this cocktail is both pleasing to the eyes and to the palate.


Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 2 tbsp Amaro Montenegro
  • 2 tbsp shiraz
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 egg white
  • Ground cinnamon, to serve
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients in a large cocktail shaker with 3 ice cubes. 
  • Shake for 1 minute to combine, then pour into two glasses. 
  • Sprinkle it with cinnamon to serve.

 

Phoenix Cocktail

This easy cocktail is the perfect drink to sip on while you’re alone. Put on a show for yourself with this gorgeous drink or just whip it up quickly because no one’s watching.


Ingredients

  • 1 oz coconut rum
  • 2 oz pineapple mango juice
  • 1 oz pomegranate liquor

Instructions

  • If you aren't into showmanship, just toss it all into the cocktail glass and grab a whirly straw. If you’re in it for the drama, read ahead.
  • In a cocktail shaker, combine the coconut rum with the pineapple mango juice over ice.
  • Shake vigorously until chilled.
  • Prepare a glass by pouring the pomegranate liquor in first, then strain the shaken rum mixture over top.
  • Serve with a garnish of fresh sliced pineapple.

 

Lavender Tom Collins

Sophisticated and magical – this beautiful cocktail looks like it belongs to a fairytale book. Perfect for your Instagram feed!


Ingredients

  • 12 lavender flowers
  • 3 cups boiling water
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 6 fluid ounces Collins mix (gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup)
  • 2 fluid ounces gin
  • 2 maraschino cherries

Instructions

  • Place lavender flowers in an empty ice cube tray; pour boiling water over the flowers.
  • Place an ice cube tray in the refrigerator to cool, about 15 minutes. 
  • Transfer to the freezer and freeze until solid, about 3 hours.
  • Fill a glass with ice. Pour Collins mix and gin over ice; stir. 
  • Top drink with a lavender ice cube and garnish with maraschino cherries.

 

 

Honeydew Cucumber Cooler

This drink may seem familiar as a refreshment for summers but this is an adult version with all our favorite things inside!


Ingredients

  • 4 cups chopped cucumbers (2 medium-size cucumbers)
  • 1 1/2 cups cubed honeydew melon
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 cup gin
  • Garnish: cucumber slices

Instructions:

  • Process about chopped English cucumbers, cubed honeydew melon, water, and granulated sugar in a blender until smooth, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Working in batches, pour puree through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl; discard solids. Pour cucumber-honeydew juice into a 2- to 3-qt. pitcher. Stir in floral gin.
  • Slice 1 English cucumber very thinly with a mandoline. Loop cucumber ribbons around the insides of 8 small stemless wine glasses. Fill with ice; pour the cocktail evenly into glasses.

 

Strawberry Basil Gin Smash

End the night with this fruity, refreshing and herbaceous drink that's perfect for summer evenings. 


Ingredients

  • 6 medium-size strawberries, quartered
  • 4 basil leaves
  • 5 oz gin
  • 2 oz lime juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup or stevia to taste

Instructions

  • Wash, hull, and quarter the strawberries.
  • Add the berries and basil to a cocktail shaker and muddle together.
  • Add gin, lime juice, and simple syrup (or stevia). Stir.
  • Using a slotted spoon, scoop the fruit out and transfer it to the bottom of two highball glasses.
  • Add ice, then pour the contents of the cocktail shaker over.
  • Top with club soda. Stir, serve and enjoy!
  • Garnish with a slice of lime, a strawberry, or fresh basil (optional)
