DESCRIPTION
Yoichi Single Malt -This no-age-statement version from Yoichi Distillery was released in 2016 as a permanent product that truly captures the authentic style of Yoichi malts, when all age-statements were discontinued. This whisky is a range of single malt expressions and the founder Masataka Taketsuru chose the town of Yoichi in Hokkaido because of the similar environmental conditions to Scotland, where he learned whisky-making. Yoichi malts are described as bold and strong with refined peaty notes and smokiness brought by the traditional direct coal-fired distillation as well as a briny hint delivered by the sea breeze during the aging process.
TASTING NOTES
This one of Japan’s top whiskies has an aroma of gentle peat smoke and caramelized citrus fruits, melon, mango, with a smokey undertone, black liquorice, spices (nutmeg, ginger),opens up with roots and dried twig on the nose. The mid-palate starts off with chocolate notes, sweet with light smoke, seaweed, and stewed fruits. fresh fruit (melon, kiwi) and nuts (almond, walnut), which it delivers in spades in the mouth. The finish is long, satisfying and silky-smooth.
